Robert Hughes is an award winning garden designer and Director at Robert Hughes Studio Ltd in Knutsford, Cheshire. We are a small studio specialising in intricate and immersive landscapes for the high-end domestic and commercial clients in the property development market. We work all over the north west but regularly design gardens in Manchester, Liverpool, Chester, Prestbury, Alderley Edge, Hale, Wilmslow, Altrincham, Didsbury, Chorlton, Caldy, Lancashire, Staffordshire, Derbyshire, Yorkshire, North Wales and throughout the UK.

Our highly detailed and considered approach is similar to that of an architect. We provide innovative ideas and bold composition. We combine beautiful modern and traditional materials with naturalistic and often minimalistic planting design, resulting in contemporary gardens that are recognised for their imagination, clever use of form and texture, balance of space and sensitivity to their environment.

Robert Hughes Studio works on a range of projects from small town gardens to large, modern country landscapes. Our network of meticulous, highly skilled and professional Landscape contractors are complimented by craftsmen, industry experts and reputable suppliers that we use to implement our vision and bring our designs to fruition.

Robert Hughes

Robert began his career in Landscaping after graduating from the Nottingham Trent University in 2003. In 2008 he established a design and build company, gaining several years of experience building the gardens he’d designed and running large domestic projects in Wales. He became an award winning garden designer, winning two RHS Silver-Gilt Awards for show gardens and relocation to Cheshire in 2016 meant a fresh approach focussing solely on designing high end, domestic gardens and garden buildings.

The new design practice quickly gained a reputation in the north west for providing a unique and professional design service and it continues to evolve and improve today. Robert’s philosophies and approach push the boundaries on what a garden can be, resulting in exciting and sophisticated gardens which are enduring and responsive to their environment. Robert is a Registered member of the Society of Garden Designers and an accredited member of the British Association of Landscape Industries.

He recently won the Northern Design Awards for best residential landscape at Liverpool’s prestigious Titanic Hotel and a BALI National Landscape award.
